Homemade applesauce

This recipe makes about 500 ml or 2 cups of applesauce

Ingredients 

  • 3-4 apples Jonagold or Goudreinet
  • 40 grams caster sugar you can leave this out
  • 50 ml of water

Instructions

  • Peel, core and dice the apples. Put them in a saucepan with the sugar and water and bring to the boil.
  • Bring to the boil and simmer over a medium heat for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • When the apple pieces are soft, you can make a purée. For a chunky applesauce, use a potato masher. For a smooth puree, use a stick blender.
Tips
Add some vanilla, cinnamon or lemon zest to the applesauce and cook it with the apples. This will give it a delicious flavor.
How to store
In an airtight container, you can store it for several days in the fridge. In the freezer it keeps up to 3 months.
